GenAI Jumpstart: Basics for Beginners

Due to the positive response to our January 2026 session, we’re pleased to offer GenAI Jumpstart: Basics for Beginners again at additional dates and times. Join us on March 27, 2026, from 1:00 PM–2:30 PM ET.

Those who attended the January 28th or March 11th sessions are welcome to join us again—please note that the content will be the same.

Feeling curious about Generative AI but a little unsure where to begin? This session is designed just for you! GenAI Jumpstart introduces the basics in a friendly, approachable way—perfect for beginners and anyone who feels nervous about diving in. Learn what GenAI is, explore simple tools you can use right away, and discover how these technologies can make your work easier. No jargon, no pressure—just a supportive space to start your GenAI journey.

This speed-dating-style event will include four short rounds. For each round, you can choose which IU-approved GenAI tool you would like to explore. In the next round, select a different tool. You’re welcome to join the event at any time.

Most generative AI tools at IU are accessible with your IU username and passphrase. There are a few extra steps when using ChatGPT Edu. To see how to set up your ChatGPT Edu account, visit About ChatGPT Edu at IU.

Please note: This event is open to all, but it is designed with IU staff in mind. Topics such as classroom applications of AI and curriculum development will not be included.

Microsoft Copilot Chat

Copilot Chat is a web-based AI assistant that helps with quick answers and drafting content using public information, but it does not access university emails, calendars, or internal documents.
