Considering her extensive experience in educational technology support, it is no surprise that Riley is a firm believer that every student deserves good quality and easily accessible education materials. Riley is thrilled to join the IU eTexts Team and their initiative to help IU faculty members provide these materials to students. Outside of work she can be found playing video games or tending to her houseplants and garden.

Kat is passionate about allowing wonder and creativity to lead in learning spaces. Her background is in community care, teaching, writing, and technology—which centers around her work with the IU eTexts team, connecting with faculty to facilitate new possibilities in student engagement and accessibility. In her spare time, she can be found diving into cooking and art projects or tending gardens with her loved ones.

Zach's role on the Faculty Outreach team is to develop and share new or otherwise unconventional ways to support teaching and learning for faculty and students. A former teacher and instructional designer, Zach works with consultants across IU to help realize their faculty development dreams.

Robert M. De Roeck, MSCIA, CISSP, MCT is the Principal IT Training Specialist EdCert at Digital Education Programs & Initiatives – IT Training. With over 15 years of experience at Indiana University, he leads the EdCert program in providing Education Certification training mapping to several industry vendor certifications. Mr. De Roeck’s passion is sharing his knowledge and expertise in IT and Cybersecurity, assisting those who are in pursuit of certifications.

Sarah likes introducing people to technology -- not to mention other people -- that can help free up their time or resources for other priorities. Her background is in communications and outreach, strategic planning, and project management. Outside work, she enjoys traveling, exploring the outdoors, and trying new things (especially foods!) along the way.
Carrie Hansel
Manager, Unizin Programs and Initiatives and Director, Learning Analytics Fellowship Initiative
Carrie A. Hansel, Ed.D., is the Manager, Unizin Programs and Initiatives and Director, Learning Analytics Fellowship Initiative. With over 20 years of experience at Indiana University, she leads Unizin-related initiatives, such IU eText outreach, open educational resources, and learning analytics. Dr. Hansel chairs Unizin's Affordable Content Subcommittee, co-chairs the Learning Analytics Subcommittee, and disseminates Unizin information to the IU community. Additionally, her expertise is in Instructional Design and building faculty relationships. Dr. Hansel’s passion is to make a difference for students and faculty by using best practices in pedagogy, online learning, and instructional design.
April Law
IT Education Specialist
April Law is a Training Specialist with IT Training at Indiana University. With an MLS from IU and over 20 years of experience in IT and technology education, April is passionate about helping people feel confident with technology. In her time at IU, she’s worked alongside students, staff, and faculty to create practical, approachable learning experiences. Her sessions—both in-person and online—cover everything from essential digital skills to collaboration tools and productivity strategies. April loves making technology less intimidating and more useful. She also partners with campuses across the state to ensure students have the skills and resources they need to succeed.
Tom Mason
IT Training Manager and Principal Microsoft Adoption Consultant
Tom is IT Training's resident Microsoft 365, generative AI, and web development expert. His areas focus include using genertive AI to boost productivity, consulting with IU groups to help them use Microsoft applications to meet their needs, teaching database design, spreadsheets, Microsoft 365 applications, and various programming languages. When he's not working for IT Training, he's an adjunct teaching professor in the O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs. In his free time, Tom enjoys playing video games, spending time with his pets (two dogs and a cat), taking road trips, and being active in the outdoors.
Beth Lynn Nolen
Senior IT Education Specialist
Beth is responsible for creating IT Training's technology training videos, and enjoys the process of video development and production. In addition, she serves as the Materials Development Coordinator, and is responsible for helping get IT Training's content online for everyone to use. Her training focuses are on graphic design, web design, and XML. When she's not recording voiceovers for training videos or authoring courses on Adobe Creative Cloud applications, she spends her time crafting, playing board games, and reading.
Jen Oakes
Senior IT Education Specialist
Jen's work at IT Training focuses on training development and delivery. Her training areas of focus include programming and web development. When she's not teaching, she enjoys diamond painting and other crafts.
Emily Slomski
Student Outreach and Engagement Consultant
Emily Slomski is dedicated to serving as a coach, facilitator, guide, and collaborator alongside learners. She holds respect, intentional community building, and safety as core values in this work. Emily is excited to apply her experiences as an educator, advisor, and learning and development professional to help every student discover and use learning technologies available at IU. Outside of work, Emily enjoys reading, gardening, cooking, collecting fantasy maps, and hanging out with her dog, Grace.
Katie Thompson
Student Outreach and Engagement Consultant
Katie is a proud IU alum and comes from a background in nonprofit social services. She enjoys technology and bringing people together to accomplish things and have fun doing it. Katie is an unapologetic geek and an avid gamer. She can be found after hours playing board/video games with friends, singing karaoke around Bloomington, and hanging out with her cats, Mr. Patterson and Meatloaf.
