Hi everyone,
Here are five updates from this summer, in case you missed some noteworthy changes and opportunities. I'm also including details on upcoming events ranging from webinars on popular topics to in'person Campus Tech Fairs '' along with save the date listings for larger fall events.
There's a lot going on, and hopefully this helps bring it all together in a scannable digest that you can refer back to as needed!
Summer 2022 updates
Closed captioning in Zoom: Zoom content that is automatically uploaded to Kaltura will now use Zoom transcripts instead of Kaltura captions. Unless you have disabled transcripts, this process will be automatic and result in captions labeled "Zoom". Visit the IU Knowledge Base (KB) to learn more about captions in Zoom, or to explore downloading and editing captions in Kaltura.
Microsoft Teams Classes tool in Canvas: This new tool creates a team for your Canvas course and automatically adds all the class members to the team. The tool also continuously synchronizes the Canvas course roster with the team membership, automatically removing or adding students when they drop or add the course. Visit the KB to learn how to activate Microsoft Teams Classes in your course.
Adobe Stock reminder: Did you know that IU students, faculty, and staff have unlimited access to Adobe's standard stock assets? With nearly 200 million photos, vector graphics, and illustrations, you'll have a range of options to download for presentations, reports, videos, and websites –– or to add more interest to your Canvas courses. Visit the KB to learn more about Adobe Stock at IU.
Ally is coming this December: Ally helps ensure your content is more accessible by generating alternative formats and providing tips to improve your Canvas course accessibility. In December 2022, Ally will be enabled by default on all Winter 2022 and Spring 2023 Canvas courses. To prepare, join the Ally pilot, attend an Introduction to Ally webinar (details below), and check out the in-depth Ally instructor guide.
Call for proposals (due September 12): The Course Material Fellowship Program is accepting 2022–2023 applications. IU Bloomington instructors interested in adopting or creating low–cost course materials are encouraged to apply. Instructors benefit from a stipend, the expertise of librarians and instructional technologists, and the opportunity to learn alongside peers. Visit the IU Libraries website to learn more.
