- Additional webinars: InScribe, Canvas in 30, Ally, and IU eTexts engage
Pilots
We have a few new learning technology pilots to announce and we would love your feedback. You can see a list of all the current pilots at https://next.iu.edu.
The pilots for this week's message include
- student response system Top Hat beta
- platform for assignment and exam submission, grading, and analytics Gradescope
- video management and storage platforms Panopto and Yuja
The new version of Top Hat provides a tighter integration with Canvas and new features, including Roster sync, automatic or manual Grade sync, and deep linking to specific Top Hat pages, discussions, and assignments.
Gradescope is an assignment and exam submission, grading, and analytics platform that integrates with Canvas to facilitate the grading of bubble sheets, hand–written assignments, and coding assignments.
If you use Kaltura for video creation, editing or storage, we would like your feedback on Panopto and Yuja. Join these webinars to get a brief demonstration of the tools and ask your questions about integrating it into your classes.

Are you interested in building a learning community in your class by encouraging students to ask one another for help? Are you interested in reducing email, while at the same time getting your answer to an individual student's question to everyone in the class? InScribe might be the tool for you. Students can post their questions, including anonymously, and answer one another’s questions. You and your teaching team can endorse their answers and include clarifications as needed. This saves you time and gives students access to answers any time day or night, while your endorsement of answers builds student confidence knowing that the answers have been vetted. Hear from three instructors who are using InScribe in very different class types: in format (in–person, asynchronous, and flipped), in class size (ranging from 20–350), and in student type (undergraduate, graduate, and medical school). The presenters will share why and how they are using InScribe, any challenges they and their students faced, and tips for using this tool in your classes.
Webinar – InScribe for New Users: Promote Peer Learning, Build Community, and Simplify Communication
Presenters: Ana Hernandez, co–founder of InScribe
When: Monday, December 12, 2022 1 – 1:45 p.m. EST
Join this webinar to learn how to integrate InScribe into your Canvas course. InScribe is available to all IU students at no additional cost and is used to promote peer learning by giving students an online space where they can post questions and provide answers to peers. Instructors can allow students to post their questions anonymously and can also endorse students’ answers. InScribe enables students to get the help they need when they are working on their homework and peers can often provide help much faster than instructors can. Instructors, particularly those in large classes, use it as their main communication tool and report that they receive fewer emails from students giving them more time to focus on course issues that truly need their attention.
